ORLANDO, Fla. (Ivanhoe Newswire) — A distraction, a danger, and a waste of time, you’ve probably heard all the ways social media can ruin your life. But what about the positive effects of this communication phenomenon? Here are some ways social media can be good.

We know it can cause drama and controversy. But what do you like about social media?

A big benefit: social media is a job creator. Facebook alone has created more than 4.5 million social media industry jobs globally. If you’re trying to market yourself, social media is the most cost-effective way to reach a mass amount of consumers. Another positive; social media allows people to make friends all around the world. Until recently, geography was one of the most important factors when making or connecting with friends. Social media has also made learning easier. Over half of professors now use it to connect with students and share their research.

We’ve all heard how social media can be bad for teens, but one report found one in five teens says social media makes them feel more confident. And 52 percent of teens say it helps their relationships with friends. So remember it’s not all bad when it comes to social media!

Of course one of the greatest benefits of social media is that news outlets can deliver information instantaneously. If there’s a dangerous situation, more people can become aware, which could lead to better safety. Facebook now even has a feature that allows you to “check-in” and mark that you are safe in the event of an emergency in your area such as a hurricane or mass shooting.
