Claiming Your Confidence: Step into Your Power

Orlando, Fla. (Ivanhoe Newswire) — Recent studies found that self-confidence positively predicted entrepreneurship, and that confidence was the second highest rated positive trait people identified in good bosses.

When you think someone knows what they’re doing, are they competent or just confident?

Confidence bias is how people are more likely to believe someone when they appear confident, even if they’re not as competent as they claim.

But can you teach yourself to be more confident? The answer is yes! First, find your power pose. Stand up straight and imagine a line extending from your head pulling you up. Science proves that when you shift your physical state, it shifts our mental and emotional state as well.

Another way to learn confidence, fake it until you make it. Experts say to act as if you already possess the confidence you aspire to have. That means speak up, reach out, stretch yourself and exit your comfort zone. The more times you do this, the more confident you will become.

Also, focus on what you want. If you focus on what makes you anxious, it will make you more anxious. If you focus on what you want, it will inspire you and make you feel more powerful.

You can also become more confident by practicing positive self-affirmations. Take note of the successes you experience. This gives you an answer when someone asks you what you’re good at. Treat confidence as a muscle, you need to build it to use it and you need to use it or lose it.

A study by the Harvard Business Review found that confidence is often used against women in the workplace, with people often saying lack of showing their confidence is the reason why women progress slower than men.
