Drinking More Than Twice a Week Linked with Stroke
(Ivanhoe Newswire) – Men who drink alcohol more than twice a week have a three times greater risk of dying from a stroke, according to a Finnish study.
Researchers from the University of Eastern Finland examined data from a heart disease study which included 2,609 middle-aged men and a follow-up time of 20 years. This data was then used in conjunction with data on alcohol consumption and national record data on strokes. They found men who consumed alcohol more than twice a week had a threefold increased risk of stroke mortality than men who did not consume alcohol. This effect was irrespective of the amount of alcohol consumed.
